Excerpt from Simple Hydraulic Formulae
Neither does the author lay claim to pure originality; many of the formulae have been simplified from other authors, and where they have been inserted full proof of their accuracy has been afforded to the author during an extensive practice.
Some of the computations are purely original, notably those for distribution pipes in towns.
The Appendix, N o. 1, has been added chie¿y for the purpose of enabling miners, and others engaged in sluicing operations or in the use of water for other purposes, to check the quantity of water supplied them, and it is hoped that the general arrangement of the whole work is such as to afford assistance, not only to the professional Hydraulic Engineer, but to those engaged in the use of the water supplied them.
