Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) is a minimally invasive approach to prevent dental carious lesions and stop its further progression. It consists of two components: sealing of carious-prone pits and fissures (ART sealants) and restoration of cavitated dentin lesions with sealant-restorations (ART restorations). The ART approach involves the excavation of cavitated tooth surfaces with hand-instruments followed by the restoration of the cavity and sealing of any associated pits and fissures with an adhesive filling material. This treatment approach has been proven to be highly effective.
