Pathology is the study of suffering.Being precise, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is concerned with the diagnosis and study of the causes and effects of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial region.They may be congenital, acquired, vascular, infective, traumatic, autoimmune, metabolic and neoplastic to name a few. Diagnosis of these conditions is important to improve the prognosis. It can be done using various diagnostic aids or tests performed to confirm, or determine the presence of disease in an individual suspected of having the disease, usually following the report of symptoms.The field of pathology has developed at an exponential rate in the past few decades.Histopathology for many years has been the gold standard in the diagnosis of oral lesions; however, it is a rather slow process.Molecular techniques have contributed greatly in understanding the pathogenesis of genetic disorders and in diagnosis of several undifferentiated malignant neoplasms. This book deals with various advanced techniques which aid in diagnosis of different disease conditions.
