The work presented in this dissertation focuses on development and grid integration of a stand-alone 125 kVA power generation system which is based on the gasification conversion technology. Like other forms of renewable energy, integration of such a system into the distribution grid poses a few problems which have to be addressed for safe and secure electricity distribution. This research presents power system studies and other stability issues encountered in the grid connection of such a system. Control techniques are developed based on voltage, frequency, reactive power transmission and power factor for smooth grid integration and techniques are developed to ensure stability in the post disturbance state. The effects of different excitation modes of synchronous generator and other parameters like inertia, reactive power etc. influencing the robustness and reliability of grid integrated system are also analysed. Through results of dynamic analysis it will be shown that such a system is stable and allows seamless integration into the power system.

About the author

An electrical engineer by profession and a MATLAB enthusiast, author utilizes his flair for system modelling and wealth of teaching experience in MATLAB to design and analyze gasification based power generation system integrated in the distribution grid. For MATLAB novices this book will serve as a reference guide for power system design.
