The present attempt was undertaken to set up a pioneering trend of monitoring of the seasonal variation in plankton and physico-chemical properties of selected fresh water ponds to set up the openings of the future study on this tract at this topic. The detailed study of this is done in the Ahmedabad district. Water quality is paramount factor in ecosystem productivity and phytoplankton plays a significant role in stabilizing the whole pond ecosystem and in minimizing the fluctuations of water quality. A suitable phytoplankton population's enriches the systems with oxygen through photosynthesis during day light hours and lowers the levels of carbon dioxide, ammonia, nitrite, hydrogen sulfide, methane etc. A healthy phytoplankton bloom can reduce toxic substances since phytoplankton can consume ammonia, nitrogen and tie-up heavy metals. It can prevent the development of filamentous algae. It decreases temperature loss in winter and stabilizes water temperature.
