Indian short nosed fruit bat, Cynopterus sphinx, is one of the common fruit bat among Pteropodidae family, which is commonly distributed throughout Indian subcontinent. Cynopterus sphinx is having some unique morphological characteristics such as dog shaped head, divergent nostril, large, prominent eyes and short ears with white margin. In males, the chin, anterior part of the shoulder, sides of the chest, belly and thighs are characteristically orange tinted. In females, the color is usually tawny brown; the rump is gray brown with paler gray belly. Both the first and second fingers have distinct claws, rostrum short two pairs of lower and upper incisors present. Dorsal fur is yellowish brown, ventral fur is darker than dorsal fur.
