Ipomoea sepiaria commomly known as Lakshmana belonging to the family Convolvulaceae and is a glabrous or occasionally pubescent, slender twinning climber with a slightly thickened or tuberous perennial root and leaf with dull purplish patches in the centre and pink to purplish flowers. The drug is reputed in folklore system of medicine for various therapeutic properties like, aphrodisiac and antidote to arsenic poisoning, tonic, rejuvenating, diuretic, laxative, uterotonic & sterility in women and root is indicated especially in diabetes.

Sayani Majumder obtained graduate degree in Ayurveda from jadavpur University,West Bengal and post graduate degree on Ayurveda from I.P.G.T&R.A, Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar. She published many research articles in different international journals and presently doing Ph.D from Jadavpur University, West Bengal.
