This study is essentially an attempt to ascertain the level of the performance of local Government in Bendel State in particular and Nigeria in general.The universe of the study is Bendel State Local Government. However, a sample of 10 Local Government councils were selected for reason of size and geographical spread. A sample of 600 respondents were selected from those Local Government councils using the simple random sampling method to select the Local Government councils and the cluster random sampling technique to select subjects from the public. The rate of return was about 70 percent. The study employed the survey method or the use of questionnaire, personal interview in the collection of relevant data. Nine hypotheses were formulated and tested. The likert scale was utilized to measure the respondents perceptions. Data were analyzed by use of one - way analysis of variance chi square (x2) and correlation co efficient. Level of significance was at 0.05.From the analysis of data the following conclusion could be drawn:That local Government are achieving the objectives for which they are established. However, levels of performance have not reached shared expectation.
