My heart was shattered when I had to say goodbye to my 11-day old son Logan due to cerebral hypoxia. In his days here with us, my sisters, husband and I read picture books to him, and we were amazed that even in pit of despair they managed to make us smile and laugh. From the age of 14 I wanted to be an author, but I was told in school that my grades weren't good enough. Instead, I ventured down another path, gaining diverse qualifications across the community care sector. I went on to run multiple outside school hours care (OOSH) services, and eventually moved into quality and compliance, though it was never my dream. Before Logan passed away, I promised him I would pursue my dream to become an author, to honour his memory. In the thick of grief, writing became my salvation.
