Kathryn Johanna Kuhlman, nació el 9 de mayo de 1907, en concordia, Missouri,Estados Unidos. De Padres alemanes, Joseph Adolph y Emma WalkenhorstKuhlman, ella fue la tercera de cuatro hijos: Myrtle, Eartl, Kathryn y Geneva.Kathryn se convirtió al cristianismo en 1921, a los 14 años de edad, en unareunión de avivamiento celebrada en una iglesia Metodista, en la que predicoun evangelista bautista, el Rev. Hummel.
En 1923, Kathryn termino el décimo grado de bachillerato, que era el grado deeducación pública disponible en la ciudad de Concordia. Su hermana Myrtle sehabía casado con un evangelista itinerante del instituto bíblico Moody, EveretteB. Parrott, y les pidió, a sus padres que permitieran a Kathryn acompañarlosdurante el verano. Kathryn ayudaba en los servicios compartiendo su testimonio en las reuniones de avivamiento.
