The commentary does a great job of uncovering the underlying structure in a way that encourages the reader to dig deeper into each of the Psalms. I appreciate the way Alden speaks with clarity and authority on matters that enhance a reader's understanding of a psalm without getting entangled in different controversies of an academic study.

I loved learning the various circumstances under which individual psalms were written and how that deepens the meaning for me in my walk with Christ. I feel that my understanding of the book of Psalms has grown much through the reading of this commentary. This is a great resource for those who, like me, have had no formal education on the Scriptures. In addition to being an ancient "hymnal," the book of Psalms is also poetry, and the commentary writer was quick to explain the different styles of writing and how the Psalms followed certain poetic structure. I also loved knowing that sometimes the original structure of the psalm was different when read in Hebrew.

ROBERT L. ALDEN (A.B., Barrington College; B.D., Westminister Theological Seminary; Ph.D., Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion) was professor of Old Testament at Denver Conservative Baptist Theological Seminary. He taught a wide range of courses related to Old Testament studies and traveled extensively in Israel.
