The Italian Renaissance which occurred during the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries played a vital role in the history of Europe. It influenced almost all the civilizations in this world. Though the Italian Renaissance was initiated by humanists, it revolutionized different fields such as architecture, sculpture, painting, literature, philosophy, religion, science, exploration, political science and education. In all these fields, during the renaissance period, ancient Greek works were revived. As a result, influence of ancient Greek civilization during the Renaissance period was immense. In this book, the influence of Greek philosophy on Renaissance philosophical works of Francesco Petrarca, Lorenzo Valla, Gianozzo Manetti, Marsilio Ficino, Pico della Mirandola and Pietro Pomponazzi is discussed in detail. In addition, important philosophical concepts of some of the distinguished ancient Greek philosophers are also discussed in this book.

Ms. Vasantha Ayyachamy, M.A., M.Phil. Studied M.A. in English at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai and recently completed M.Phil. in English from Department of English, University of Delhi. She is interested in doing research in the fields of Italian Renaissance philosophy, South Asian studies, Modernism and post-colonialism.
