SHM-CDs (Super High Material CDs) feature improved audio quality by using a special polycarbonate plastic. SHM-CDs enhance the transparency of the CD's data side by means of a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan in joint research into LCD display manufacture. It ensures more accurate reading of the CD data by the laser head in the CD player. SHM-CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players.
