Fra tutte le lingue neo-latine la lingua italiana è quella sulla cui origine e sulla cui storia maggiormente si è scritto. Le vicende su questo subbietto sono state varie, ingegnose dotte e sovente esatte tuttavia il risultato non è stato ne positivo nè soddisfacente, e ciò, io credo, pel modo vago e superficiale col quale queste ricerche sono state intraprese.
