Excerpt from Foreign Agriculture Circular: Fpe1-Fpe3, 1978
The production growth follows gains of 5 percent in 1977 and 8 percent in 1976. Broiler and turkey production are each forecast to increase more than 5 percent; production of meat from fowl is expected to rise around 3 percent. Generally, lower feedgrain prices around the world have encouraged poultry and pork producers to continue their expansion. While lower beef production is expected to partially offset these increased meat supplies, availabilities of all meats will again rise.
Higher production of poultry meat is indicated for all regions, with the smallest gains in the European Community (2 percent) and the United States (3 percent). The largest increase is forecast for the USSR (8 percent) followed by South America whose 6 percent gain for the most part results from the 10 percent expansion forecast for Brazil.
